Live Mini-Home Tour: The Future of Home Electrification

You’ve just landed at the gateway to the future of residential energy.

The Mini-Home is a fully functional, 100-square-foot demonstration space that brings the power of home electrification to life. Designed through a grant from Denver’s Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency (CASR) program, this off-grid unit is a mobile teaching tool—meant to inform, engage, and inspire the next generation of tradespeople and energy professionals.

For trade schools, workforce programs, and community partners, it’s a rare opportunity to give your people hands-on exposure to the systems shaping the next decade of residential construction, HVAC, and energy efficiency.

This isn’t a display—it’s a fully-operational, off-grid lab that comes to you.

Where Electrification Gets Real

Step inside the Mini-Home and enter a living energy ecosystem.

A rooftop solar panel system feeds a Tesla Powerwall, storing extra power from when the sun is shining . A SPAN smart panel manages every circuit and shows power consumption in real time. Inside, every system—heating, cooling, cooking, and hot water—is powered entirely by electricity. No gas. No noise. No emissions.

This is home electrification in practice. But it’s not built to impress—it’s built to educate.

Visitors are encouraged to  view the equipment, see the data from the SPAN, ask questions, and explore how the systems work together. It’s a hands-on lab experience that connects training to real-world application in a way no slideshow ever could.

A Spotlight on the Heat Pump Mini-Split system

Among the home’s energy-efficient systems, one stands out for its impact and relevance is the Heat Pump mini-split, which provides both heating and cooling to the mini home while using minimal electricity.

Rather than generating heat directly, it transfers heat (or cooling) from ambient air to the mini-split coils—cutting energy use by up to 75% and offering an all-electric alternative to gas, resistance heating, and the typical AC condenser coil which can only provide cold air.

Inside the Mini-Home, the HP mini-split is fully installed, visible, and operational. You’ll see firsthand how it:

  • Performs efficiently in year-round Colorado conditions

  • Operates quietly in compact residential spaces

  • Seamlessly connects with solar and smart panels

  • Demonstrates a skillset in high demand for plumbing and HVAC careers

This isn’t theory—it’s the kind of equipment your students will be called to service, install, and retrofit in the real world.

Designed for Students. Built for the Future.

Whether you teach electrical, HVAC, plumbing, or energy systems, you're preparing students for an industry that’s changing fast.

As more homeowners and municipalities shift to electric solutions like residential HVAC systems, the demand for skilled labor is growing. But training often lags behind.

The Mini-Home helps close that gap by giving students and instructors a tangible, immersive experience. It creates clarity. Sparks curiosity. And bridges the space between curriculum and career.

Space is limited and demand is growing—so the earlier you book, the better.
